When I first heard of Smart Drug Smarts, it was through the Dynamite Circle, which is the membership forum for the Tropical MBA podcast. SDS is run by Jesse Lawler, who is a programmer/smart drug enthusiast. He interviews interesting people for most of his podcast episodes. I listened to a few of his podcasts and determined that he’s great at asking good questions and creating educational listening materials on the topic of cognitive enhancement.
I met Jesse in Los Angeles back in November and we chatted about Nootropics, cognitive enhancers, bitcoin, online entrepreneurship, and a number of other interesting topics. The guy knows his stuff and has a great personality and voice. His ponytail, t-shirt, five fingers, and laid back dress immediately calls to mind the images of other Californian self-development gurus like Dave Asprey and Tim Ferriss. He was immediately friendly, down to earth, and generally fun to talk to. We dropped out of contact for a bit after he went back to Vietnam, but we started talking again on Skype recently and I decided it was time to do a review of his podcast.
While there are a lot of sites about Nootropics, and it feels like new ones are launched every day, there aren’t a lot in an audio-format. His podcast format, while not exactly SEO friendly, is definitely a positive thing for commuters who can’t be reading and driving at the same time, and also good for auditory learners. He’s been running the site for a little over a year now and just released his 30th episode.
In the podcasts, interviews industry experts, neuroscientists, and doctors. He’s had on the podcast recently Abelard Lindsay, Andrew Hill, David Pearce, and Gabe Lee. The conversations range from elementary to PHD level discussions, and there’s something for everyone to enjoy.
