Frequently Asked Questions

What Effects Will I Notice?

This is highly dependent on both the nootropic and your individual biochemistry. Spatial memory, ability to concentrate, working memory, verbal fluidity and problem solving ability (fluid intelligence) are common areas that can improve. Other less common areas that certain nootropics address include sleep, anxiety, and motivation.

How Long Do Nootropics Take To Work?

Different nootropics have unique profiles and differing mechanisms of action.  Looking broadly at user feedback, anecdotal reports and research we could generalize that:

Stimulant based cognitive enhancers – Typically felt in a number of hours, such as caffeine.
Nutrient based nootropics – Typically 4-8 weeks. Examples being creatine and omega 3.
Piracetam – Typically 2-4 weeks. Minimum fair trial 2 weeks.
More potent racetams – Initial effects are sometimes hours, often days.
NGF / Neurogenesis stacks – Typically 4-12 weeks.

Please note that this is only a very rough guide. Response times are highly variable and depend on a number of factors.

Are Nootropics Safe?

When used correctly, nootropics are safe. Do they have the potential to be unsafe? Yes. Any substance, even water, can be unsafe if taken in excess. As a general rule, nootropics (not stimulants) tend to have a wide safety margin between the effective dose and toxic dose when compared with common over the counter drugs.  We advise you to thoroughly research every compound before taking anything. Please do not construe anything on this website as medical advice.

Are Nootropics Addictive?

Generally speaking, no. Stimulants such as caffeine, adderall, sulbutiamine and modafinil are a different story.

Do The Effects Of Nootropics Wear Off?

It’s reasonable to assume that the intelligence and cognitive boosting benefits do infact wear off. However, long term behavioural changes and extra knowledge acquired don’t wear off!

How Much Smarter Will I Get?

Sadly, this question is almost impossible to answer.  Individual responses to nootropics are highly variable and depend on a number of factors.  Modest IQ improvement seems reasonable, but large leaps (such as 30-40 points) shouldn’t be expected.

Where Can I Purchase Nootropics?

We recommend a number of suppliers that we are affiliated with. We have found they meet our standards for service and quality and thus can be recommended:

Absorb Health – Supplies various nootropics, both powders and capsules.

Pure Nootropics – Piracetam, aniracetam, oxiracetam and theanine.

Nootropics Depot – Supplier of powdered nootropics. racetams, cholines, ALCAR, sulbutiamine and phenibut.

Intellimeds – Supplier of various nootropics, both powders and capsules.

Should I Purchase Powder or Capsules?

The pros of powders is that they tend to be cheaper (cost/g) and easier to obtain. They are also far easier to dose than capsules, which would require splitting if you wish to tailor your dose. The downsides of powders are that they are inconvenient, not portable and they require precision scales for accurate dosing. Powders also have a taste, which in some cases can be unpalatable (think pramiracetam).

What Is A COA?

A  COA is a certificate of analysis. It typically is performed by a third party to assess the purity of a compound. COA’s can contain heavy metal content, which typically lists mercury, cadmium, lead and arsenic.
